Our Story
Fatherhood Made the Work Personal.
Melvin White, MS began his journey in early childhood education at just 15 years old. What started as a career path would eventually become the foundation for something much more personal—fatherhood.
When Melvin became a father at 24, the knowledge he had gained about child development became an invaluable part of raising his daughter, Desiree. By the time she was three, Melvin was her custodial father and her first teacher. His early-childhood background helped him better understand her development, support her through difficult experiences, and become more confident in meeting her needs.
Those experiences also gave Melvin an early understanding of how important it is for fathers to have access to knowledge, resources, encouragement, and systems that intentionally include them as essential members of the family.
That understanding stayed with him.
Years later, after decades of working with children and families and while facilitating Boot Camp for New Dads, Melvin repeatedly heard fathers asking a simple but important question:
“What do we do after we bring the baby home?”

Melvin understood the question from both sides—as an early-childhood professional and as a father who had once needed to navigate parenthood himself.
That intersection of professional experience, lived fatherhood, and years of listening to fathers helped inspire Dads on Duty™ and ultimately Frat Dads LLC.
Today, Frat Dads carries that experience forward by equipping fathers, strengthening families, and helping professionals and organizations engage fathers more intentionally.
The classroom got bigger. The purpose remained the same.

To become a nationally recognized leader in fatherhood and family engagement—helping shape stronger practices, stronger organizations, and stronger communities where fathers are valued, families are supported, and men are equipped to build lasting legacies.
Purpose
Frat Dads exists to help ensure that fathers are seen, supported, equipped, and intentionally included in the lives of their children, families, and communities—while creating opportunities for men to grow in fatherhood, relationships, purpose, brotherhood, and legacy.

Frat Dads brings together lived fatherhood, decades of experience with children and families, and professional expertise to create practical approaches that work beyond the training room.
Our work is fatherhood-centered because fathers deserve to be intentionally included, equipped, and engaged. It is family-focused because stronger father engagement can contribute to stronger relationships, stronger families, and healthier communities.
We also recognize that meaningful father and family engagement requires strong professionals and organizations. That’s why Frat Dads works alongside educators, early-childhood professionals, family-service teams, nonprofits, and community organizations to strengthen the way fathers and families are welcomed, engaged, and supported.
Whether we are educating fathers, strengthening family engagement, developing professionals, supporting wellness, or building brotherhood, our approach remains practical, relational, and grounded in real experience.
